Everybody Loves Raymond expertly portrays the reality of family life. But, why are Ray's twins, Michael and Geoffrey so different in the pilot?

To me, the kids who played the twins in the first episode do not look like kids that Ray and Debra would have. How do you explain them having curly hair when their parents do not?
