You mean Timothy Dalton!? He actually did two James Bond movies, the first being 1987's The Living Daylights. As for why he didn't make more Bond movies, well this is what Google's AI Overview has to say:
Quote:
Timothy Dalton only made two James Bond films, The Living Daylights (1987) and License to Kill (1989), primarily because a lengthy legal dispute between the film's producers and MGM led to a five-year hiatus for the series, during which Dalton's contract expired and he chose not to continue when production eventually resumed with Pierce Brosnan taking over the role.

Key Factors Contributing to Dalton's Short Tenure:

Legal Dispute:
A significant factor was a lawsuit between the Bond producers (Eon Productions) and MGM over distribution rights, which stalled production and resulted in a five-year gap between films.

Expired Contract:
By the time the legal issues were resolved, Dalton's contract had expired, and he was no longer obligated to continue as James Bond.

Producer's Decision:
When offered the chance to return for GoldenEye after the lawsuit, producer Albert Broccoli felt that a single film after such a long gap would be impractical and that a multi-film commitment would be needed, which Dalton declined.

Pierce Brosnan's Availability:
Pierce Brosnan, who was initially considered for the role before Dalton took over, became available after the hiatus, and the producers opted to cast him for the next film.

Roger Moore returned as James Bond one final time in A View to a Kill (1985) — but was it a mistake, or an unfairly judged farewell? In this Loving the 80s episode, we revisit Moore’s last Bond outing, exploring the age debate, heavy use of stunt doubles, Christopher Walken’s eccentric villain, Grace Jones’ unforgettable May Day, and one of the best theme songs in the franchise. Once mocked, the film has quietly built a cult following over the years.
