My Two Dads - A Retrospective Review

In this video, I review the short-lived series My Two Dads. This show ran on NBC from 1987-1990 starring Paul Reiser, Staci Keenan, Greg Evigan, and Florence Stanley.

I remember seeing My Two Dads with my mom when USA started airing reruns of it and I could never figure out why or how in the world it existed in the first place. Because the way I view it the only reason why My Two Dads became a hit is because it was the show that made Paul Reiser a household name and when you look at the show by watching an episode the storyline was identical to Full House because Greg Evigan was like the Bob Saget of My Two Dads and Paul Reiser was the John Stamos of My Two Dads and I wonder if Jeff Franklin sued NBC for copying Full House when My Two Dads debuted? I also cannot figure out why You Can Count On Me was chosen as the theme song to My Two Dads? What does that have to do with dads and daughters? I guess they wanted a friendly type of theme song with a message of friendship. But you can see why My Two Dads got cancelled in 1990 and Staci Keanan would go on to play Dana in Step By Step which debuted in 1991 and Paul Reiser would go to be in his most successful sitcom Mad About You which fans of Paul Reiser most associate him with usually. But you can see why My Two Dads is another sitcom that rarely gets talked about and it's no secret why it was short-lived because NBC wanted to copy Full House because seeing what ABC did made NBC jealous and so they wanted to cash in on the success of ABC's Full House

My Two Dads is not a copy of Full House. First off, they both premiered in September 1987 so there was nothing to copy yet. And the concepts are totally different. Full House is a man and his two brothers, father figures in that one are all related. My Two Dads is two unrelated men who had been with one woman. She had a unique will that left custody of her daughter to both of them.
