"The Neighborhood" Marty & Malcolm Spinoff Starring Marcel Spears & Sheaun McKinney in the Works at CBS

"The Neighborhood" universe is eying further expansion with a second spinoff. The upcoming Season 7 finale of the hit CBS comedy series starring Cedric the Entertainer will serve as a planted spinoff headlined by Marcel Spears and Sheaun McKinney.

The premise of the offshoot echoes that of the mothership in reverse. It follows Marty (Marcel Spears) and Malcolm (Sheaun McKinney) Butler as they embark on new adventures, finally leaving their parents’ nest to start the next chapters of their lives, finding themselves the newcomers in a neighborhood that’s both close by yet worlds apart: Venice Beach.

Three new characters will be introduced in the planted spinoff (Episode 720) as guest stars with options to become series regulars if CBS moves forward with the project for the 2025-26 season.

CBS has lined up Justin Long (Goosebumps), Kara Royster (Dynasty), Hunter King (Y&R) and Angelique Cabral (Life in Pieces) to guest star in the Season 7 finale of "The Neighborhood" which will serve as the backdoor pilot for a potential spinoff series.

The quartet have options to become series regulars if CBS moves forward with the planted spinoff for the 2025-26 season and will star on the proposed series alongside "The Neighborhood’s" Marcel Spears and Sheaun McKinney who will move onto the offshoot.

CBS not moving forward with The Neighborhood spinoff

The untitled spinoff revolving around The Neighborhood brothers, Sheaun McKinney's Malcolm Butler and Marcel Spears' Marty Butler, is dead. It was to revolve around "Calvin and Tina’s adult sons “embark on new adventures, finally leaving their parents’ nest to start the next chapter of their lives, finding themselves the newcomers in a neighborhood that’s both close but yet world apart: Venice Beach,” per the official logline. A backdoor pilot for the spinoff, also starring Justin Long and Hunter King, will still air on May 5.

Cedric the Entertainer Talks Nixed "The Neighborhood" Spinoff

Cedric the Entertainer has admitted that he was only “somewhat” surprised by CBS‘ decision in not going through with "The Neighborhood" spinoff.

“I do recognize that we’re in a very difficult time as far as television goes,” Cedric tells TVLine. “We were excited about doing this. We created the idea, and we intentionally tried to use an episode of The Neighborhood that we had in order to shoot it.”

But as he points out, the TV industry is in a state of transition, and broadcast networks are “not doing a lot of pilots [anymore]. They’re not spending a lot of money… they’re just kind of workshopping ideas.

We thought we did a great job, but ultimately there wasn’t enough room in the budget for what we had.”

He is excited that fans will get to see a glimpse of the show that he had envisioned and has a plea for viewers at home.

“I want everybody to write in [to CBS], because I think people are going to see this season finale and be, like, ‘That’s a great show! Y’all should do that show!'”
