All of Cable & Local News onair can Close Down Permanently.
They started out as good networks worth watching than turned into their sister network and aired blocks of the same show day in and night in, night out and day out. In addition showed more Commercials than show. It’s 2025 Viewers stream. Cable is living in a different world that no longer exists. Cable Thank you for your original concept and fond memories but it’s now time to retire. Thanks again. This also goes for local news. Viewers get info now on local news websites they don’t wait till 4 4:30 5 5:30 6 7 7:30 & 10 & 11. Breaking News welcome to 2025. |

There's nothing new on this list, these are the same channels that have been circling the drain for the last several years. I'll add one TCM. I thought the channel would be dead by now, the revenue model is solely dependent on fees from cable companies. Most companies have moved the channel off basic and basic + tiers and onto their highest priced tier or premium sports channel tier. Even among individuals who watch TCM the channel is little viewed with the average viewer watching less than two movies a month. There is no app so they can't capture any revenue from cordcutters who might still be interested in obtaining the service. I just don't see how it can hold out much longer, TCM UK and Ireland closed in July of 2023 and I think it's just a matter of time.

Second tier channels were mentioned in the original post. I think these channels could be in trouble too:
+FYI *Magnolia Logo *Destination America (its website even redirects to HGTV GO) *These networks mostly carry old HGTV content. +This network mostly carries old A&E content. As to cable network problems in general, I think at some point there will be a domino effect. Some major failure will almost immediately lead to others. Local news (mentioned in another post): I don't see the failure of local channels anytime soon, and their news coverage seems to dominate more and more of some of their schedules. Also some streaming services carry them. And, local channels are cash cows now--not only do they benefit from ads as they always have, they charge any provider that carries their signal/content. Now if one of the legacy networks failed, that could really shake things up for local channels. |
