She made good money at the boutique and she was a buyer for years before she became the "head buyer." Furthermore, she had enough income to qualify to adopt as a single parent so why was she allowed to live in the projects all those years?

Fans also questioned why Willona lived in the projects when she made good money and had no offspring. IIRC, Fans responded something like, "Willona probably claimed that she was the Mother's of the pregnancy scare that never happened. Remember that Willona thought she MIGHT be pregnant with Ray and her Baby and failed talcum powder. She wasn't pregnant, but she probably claimed that she and Ray had a child and lied about how much money she made, grossly lowering the amount she made. For example, let's say she got $20 an hour at the Boutique. VERY good money for the 1970's
She could have easily claimed she only made $5 an hour. 💡

I wonder if it could have been like on an income-based basis? I live in an income based apartment, and ANYONE can live here, but the rent depends on how much money you make. If you make a good living, you have a much higher rent.

That could have been the case here, Willona could have moved in when she wasn't making much money, and just stayed because she didn't wanna leave the Evans family
