Educated one playing the "straight man" in a comedy (Alice/Dorothy)
Promiscuous one (Flo/Blanche)
Sweet but slow-witted (Vera/Rose)

Incidentally, The Golden Girls premiered a season after Alice came to an end.

Interesting. I never thought of that but I guess it does make sense. The only connection I was aware of was Vera's husband was the gay cook/housekeeper on the Golden Girls pilot.

I think a lot of shows have this format, the down-to-Earth one, the ditzy one, and the high sexed one; 3's Company as well....

Janet/Dorothy/Alice

Chrissy/Rose/Vera

Jack/Blanche/Flo

Mr. Roper/Mel/Sophia

But I think Blanche is a bit more similar to Belle than Flo
