Cool My Take On Jake in Progress

As I cannot stand Full House, I thought I would have a hard time watching John Stamos on his new show Jake in Progress. But you know what? He's not too bad.

The show is likeable and breezy. Not hilarious by any means, but some good solid writing with some interesting characters and capable performances.

I watched all four episodes and each one gave me a grin and at least a couple chuckles.

I like the characters of Adrian and Patrick and the actors who play them. Wendie Malick was never a particular favorite of mine, but she isn't too bad and thankfully she is not over the top (not yet at least) as Jake's self absorbed boss.

I don't know where they are going with the plot line, but it as entertaining a sitcom/half hour show as ABC has next to George Lopez.

In my mind (opinion, people) it is already better than According to Jim (who watches this?), My Wife and Kids (never liked), Rodney (yeah,ok), 8 Simple Rules (actually much better now), Hope and Faith (blah), & Less than Perfect (most overrated).

Of course this is only after 4 episodes.

But I will watch this show over "Joey."
(Anyone?)

And who would have imagined watching a John Stamos show over a Friends spinoff? Doesn't say much about my opinion of what they are doing with "Joey."

Can't wait to see how the ratings standoff turns out.

Thumbs up

I love watching this new show with John Stamos. He is still a great actor. I'm watching these two shows back to back. And then after John Stamos' new show, I will watch "Summerland" with his former co-star Lori Loughlin. I love watching these two shows. They're great! It's like "Sex and the City" with a twist!

I saw the special "preview" last Sunday night, and I kinda liked it. Like dlemond said, it's light and breezy.

Short-Lived Sitcom Potpourri (XXIII)

Quote:
Thoughts: Originally conceived as a real-time single-cam (à la Watching Ellie) where the entire first season would cover its eponymous playboy on one long blind date, Jake In Progress lost all its high-concept color in development, eventually making it to air in a generic dual structure format, splitting time between his personal and professional lives with episodic stories about either his career maneuvers or romantic pursuits. This proves to be a disappointment, for Jake doesn’t have the character work to make interesting or fresh its otherwise clichéd ideas, which now feel collectively muted because of that risk-avoidant dilution of premise.
