CBS Cancels "The Great Indoors"
"The Great Indoors" Canceled at CBS after 1 Season
by Nellie Andreeva May 13, 2017 After the shock cancellation of "2 Broke Girls" last night, an expected one today: struggling freshman CBS sitcom "The Great Indoors" will not be returning for a second season. There was no hope for the comedy staring Joel McHale, which didn’t pass the test of two trial airings on Monday. The series, from CBS TV Studios, landed CBS’ best comedy slot, behind "The Big Bang Theory" on Thursday, but it couldn’t hold onto its sizable lead-in. "The Great Indoors‘" dropped to series lows both times it aired on Monday, including all-time low-marks of 3.9 million viewers and 0.7 adults 18-49 rating (Live+ Same Day) earlier this week. http://deadline.com/2017/05/the-grea...on-1202092991/ |

The show spent the first half of the season making lazy unfunny millennial baiting jokes. It sort of felt like a show that was meant to pit millennials vs. Gen X'ers but the actual writing seemed to come from Baby Boomers. Generational jokes in their own, really need to have substance in order to truly to be funny. However, in the second half they reduced the amount of them (but they were still there) focused more on the dysfunctional relationships between the characters. This was when the cast chemistry started to take hold but I suppose that the damage was already done.

CBS canceled this millennial-focused sitcom series after just one season, and the reason the network pulled the plug couldn’t be more ironic. |
