Default Motels of UM

What are the most iconic motels featured in the show? Are there any of them that you would stay at? Are there any that creep you out and you would not stay at? which ones are still in business?

The motels from the Kay Beeman update always stand out to me. and no I would not stay at them. Both are in Ontario near the lake. One was the beach motor inn and the other was the red rose motel. they both appear to be open now.

I also think of one local to where I live at. the lake mead lodge from the steven cox segment. that is no longer in service. I think it is boarded up now. The Gold Strike Casino where Cox was arrested is now the Hoover Dam Casino. If you want to stay near Lake Mead National Recreation area and away from the strip but still gamble, this might be a place to stay at. it looks ok and there is great hiking, hoover dam, and fun outdoor activity nearby.

Another creepy motel that forever stands out is the Wilhite motel, later known as the Blue Water Inn in Panama City from the Pamela June Ray segment. I think that one is abandoned now, but not sure. You can still find it on google maps and it looks creepy. I drove by it without even knowing that I did a few years ago.

I would stay at the General Wayne Inn and have thought about staying on the Queen Mary. Bullocks Deadwood is another one I plan to visit.

The Wilhite is long torn down and replaced by a high rise condo. I’m sort of local.

I can't find the name, but the rundown hotel from the Neal Jennings segment (where Stephnie Weir makes her debut).

I was wondering about that. It shows a picture of it on google maps and says it is permanently closed. I was last there in September of 2021 on a trip to Tyndall AFB. I didn't recognize a lot of things at Tyndall after the hurricane.

For those of us older locals, PCB is almost unrecognizable. All the mom and pops are gone, replaced by high rises. The last one(Peeks) was torn down last year. All of the local landmarks are gone.

I can't find the run down motel. there is a sign on the UM segment, but it's not readable. I always remember the "he done did the job" line that the lady says in the interview. There is no mention of motel names in the segment. I went back and watched and there is another motel in the segment. the first one was the "mesa" motel on the edge of town where neal and bill checked in the night they got into town. I was able to find a "Budget Inn" which is very close to the location of where Neal's body was found. The Budget Inn very closely resembles the mesa motel if you look at some of the features and the orientation of the buildings. I'm convinced that it is it. I wonder where neal was actually murdered and if authorities checked the motel...they didn't mention anything about the motel or speak to anyone from the motel in the segment. they just show neal pulling into the motel and later appear to show Neal after he checked into the motel. My thought is there was some type of fight between the two mean at the motel and Bill must have shot him later.

sad to hear that. I've only been there twice. that was my first temporary duty assignment back in 2007. I have some great memories there with my Air Force friends, and also had a great time with the locals back then. in 2021 it was unrecognizable compared to my trip 14 years before that.

One that sticks out to me is the one featured in the Charles Morgan segment. It looks virtually unchanged, except for the name of it.

I agree. I'm around 3 hours away, and just from the 90s, a great deal of it is unrecognizable. The Chateau was finally sold and is now under a Best Western Flag. Even in the 90's, lots of those mom and pop motels were still around.

As for hotels, the old Hilton (now Marriott) in Mobile where Gail Delano was found is local. I actually worked at that hotel one summer during my college years. The director of sales stated that he worked there at the time and remembered the incident.

General Wayne Inn isn't a hotel anymore. It's been a synagogue since 2005.

since 2005, that's 2-3 years before I started posting on here. surprised it's been that long and I did not know that. I would still be interested in visiting.

Fairly certain that this was the rundown motel featured in the Neal Jennings segment.

good find! I have a picture somewhere of the gold strike casino, now the boulder station casino that was featured in the S. Cox segment. It is located on Lake Mead next to Hoover Dam. I think that's where Cox was arrested. although that's not the motel that he was staying at. the motel that was featured was in the lake mead national recreation area and I think it is boarded up now. sometimes I drive through there to avoid traffic if I'm going to Arizona. There's also a cool hike across the highway called Gold Strike Hot Springs that takes you down to some springs along the Colorado river.
