What I mean is that they going into the 2020s, don't have a proper two hour comedy block. In recent times, NBC's sitcoms have only lasted two seasons:
And instead of giving sitcoms a regular season's worth of 22 episodes, they typically get only 10 episodes a season. So there's the likelihood, that NBC wouldn't promote the show well and just burn off the second season. Come the fall of 2021, NBC had no comedies in its line-up. NBC's two biggest sitcoms right now are Night Court and Lopez vs. Lopez, which each are going into their third seasons. |

In their eyes, people don't care about scripted TV much anymore. I've been seeing the media push this narrative in recent times. It's not even onlysitcoms, but all scripted television. I can't tell you if this is true, however the idea that scripted TV is dying is absolutely bonkers to me.

Even CBS doesn't have a proper two hour comedy block anymore. Between Dick Wolf, The Voice, and football NBC doesn't have much room left.

If scripted TV really is doing poorly, then I suppose it makes sense that they don't want to invest money into something that is giving them bad returns. That said, I want to believe scripted TV still has a place in this world, and personally, I prefer scripted to reality. But...I'm not much of a social butterfly, and I'm also not in the popular age demo for advertisers anymore. So my opinion doesn't really matter to them, does it?
