Treat Williams, the star of Everwood and Hair, has died after being involved in a motorcycle accident. He was 71.

The actor's death was confirmed to PEOPLE on Monday evening by his agent of 15 years, Barry McPherson.

"He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off," McPherson says. "I'm just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented."

"He was an actor's actor. Filmmakers loved him. He's been the heart of the Hollywood since the late 1970s," McPherson continues. "He was really proud of his performance this year. He's been so happy with the work that I got him. He's had a balanced career."

I didn't even know that Treat Williams had passed away because I knew very little about him and I always thought his name was weird because I never knew Treat was a name and a treat is something you eat after lunch and dinner. Why was he named Treat? The only time I saw this guy was in the Hallmark Hall Of Fame movie Front Of The Class and he was pretty good. I had no idea he was in Everwood because the only actor that I know from Everwood was Chris Pratt. I wonder how Chris Pratt is handling Treat Williams's death very well

It’s an incredibly sad season for the cast and crew of Everwood. We’re still reeling from the loss of John Beasley and yesterday we lost Treat Williams as well. Both men were exceptional actors, wonderful husbands, fathers and friends. They will be missed tremendously. I learned a great deal from working with each of them. The Beasley family and Williams family will be in my family’s prayers. May we see you again gentlemen. God bless you. Hug your loved ones. Reach out to that person that’s been on your mind. Life is fragile, precious and finite. Embrace it and one another. Driver in crash that killed Everwood star Treat Williams pleads guilty to reduced charge

At an emotional hearing, the actor's son reportedly told the driver, "I do forgive you, and I hope that you forgive yourself

The Vermont man charged with grossly negligent operation in the vehicular crash that killed Everwood actor Treat Williams pleaded guilty to a reduced charge Friday.

According to the Associated Press, Ryan Koss, 35, pleaded guilty to negligent driving with death resulting and was given a one-year deferred sentence. Koss, who knew Williams, will lose his driving license for a year and has to complete a community restorative justice program as part of his probation.

Police said in a news release last year that the June 12 accident occurred when Koss attempted to turn his Honda Element into a parking lot, with the initial investigation indicating that he "stopped, signaled a left turn, and then turned into the path of a northbound 1986 Honda VT700c motorcycle operated by Williams." Authorities added that Williams "was unable to avoid a collision and was thrown from his motorcycle. He suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York, where he was pronounced dead."

Williams, whose screen credits also included Hair and Blue Bloods, was 71.
