Cool Susan Dey

You know, Susan was an ok actress. She was perfect as Laurie Partridge on The Partridge Family. Why she doesn't want to be associated with the show now is so rediculous. If it werent for the show she would not have gotten the role on LA Law. She should be thankful instead of resentful. You know how many people would have loved to be on a high rated show with Shirley Jones and David Cassidy. Susan is a mediocore actress anyway. Sometimes people want more than should have. I think had Susan appreciated what God gave her to begin with she would have embraced her past and looked foward to her future. I hope whatever she is doing now she is happy.

Allegedly, Susan categorically refuses to publicly discuss The Partridge Family because during that time, she had a huge crush on David Cassidy which ended badly (they dated once when the show was over - David had been oblivious to shy Susan's crush, according to Shirley Jones - and the date ended when David told Susan he thought of her as a sister). Also, it's allegedly because Susan was desperately unhappy all through her time on The Partridge Family. She was anorexic, unsure of what she was doing, and hated growing up on TV.

This is completely speculative but it's possible that Susan considered herself to be a "multi-faceted" actress and merely viewed The Partridge Family as just an acting job.

Here's what Shirley Jones wrote in her book:
Quote:
Throughout the series, Susan Dey continued to be crazy about David, but he didn’t handle her emotions for him particularly well or sensitively.

Often, he would come back from his weekend rock concerts and tell her stories about how he had to get security guards to hide him from all the female fans. He would also tell her about all the ones from whom he didn’t hide and the great sex he’d had with them.

Susan listened and gave a good impression of accepting the situation stoically, but I knew how hard it was for her because I knew exactly how she felt about David.

Finally, I took him aside and told him that he had to be careful talking to Susan because he was hurting her badly. At first, David didn’t understand. I think he may have viewed Susan as the sister he had never had, but I saw the situation differently.

She had a great big crush on David, and he didn’t reciprocate her feelings. But she wouldn’t listen to my advice to stay away from David, and I found myself warning her over and over against getting involved with him. I began to realize that I was sounding exactly the way Sari had when she’d tried so desperately to warn me about Jack all those years ago.
