"Young Sheldon" to End with Season 7 on CBS; Series Finale Date Set

CBS‘ No. 1 comedy series "Young Sheldon" is coming to an end.

"The Big Bang Theory" spinoff will conclude with the upcoming seventh season, which will consist of 14 episodes. It will air a one-hour series finale on at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 16.

The news is not surprising. The upcoming Season 7, which premieres Feb. 15, is the last in a three-year pickup "Young Sheldon" received in 2021.

“As a prequel to one of the biggest comedies, Young Sheldon proved lightning can strike twice,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment.

“It set itself apart with a remarkable cast that felt like a family from the first moment we saw them on screen and brought characters to life with unique heartfelt stories that drew audiences in from the start.”

“We extend a sincere thank you to executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and Steve Holland and the entire writing and producing teams for six wonderful seasons,” Reisenbach added.

“We look forward to seeing their final season unfold and giving it a proper sendoff with the best episodes yet for their fans to enjoy.”

Since Sheldon stopped celebrating Christmas after the age of 5, you really can't blame this one on the strike-shortened season.

Chuck Lorre Weighs In on the End of "Young Sheldon"

During an appearance on The Hollywood Reporter’s TV’s Top 5 podcast, Chuck Lorre reflected on the “natural lifespan” of "Young Sheldon", which is ending after Season 7 (which will consist of just 14 episodes).

“The story of this extraordinary prodigy in a small town outside of Houston, in a family where he is very much a fish out of water — that story we’ve kind of told, and the remainder of his path leading up to The Big Bang Theory happens at CalTech, in California,” Lorre explains.

“Seven years… seems like the natural lifespan of [Young Sheldon], and that was a feeling that was shared between myself and both [series co-creator/executive producer] Steve Molaro and [fellow EP] Steve Holland, who have been instrumental in keeping this thing as extraordinary as it has been.”

I wonder if an eighth season could be done if enough fans were to write into CBS about it.

I am sure CBS would not be opposed to a season 8. But this was the producers' decision, with Sheldon turning 14 Young Sheldon has run its coarse. What would be a great idea for them is spinning off Young Sheldon into two more shows: The Coopers and Sheldon in College. I just mentioned this in a thread on General Sitcoms.
