Sad RIP Matthew Perry

From Yvette Nicole Brown on Twitter and Instagram:
Quote:
Our #OddCouple family suffered a great loss today. The entire entertainment world has. I am too sad about the news to say more than this:
@mattyperry4
was a sweetheart who deserved more peace in this life. 54 is too young to go. We love you, Matty! #RIPMatthewPerry 💔
From Thomas Lennon on Instagram:
Quote:
Goodnight, friend.
From Andrea Bogart on Instagram:

Rest in peace Matthew Perry @mattyperry4 - I send love to his nearest and dearest right now. Thank you for being someone I watched tirelessly and laughed, cry laughed with for years as you brought so many of us joy through #FRIENDS. Years later getting to perform in front of a live studio audience with you on #TheOddCouple was a dream come true, a career highlight. A sitcom with one of the ultimate funny men of Hollywood. You welcomed me so graciously, eased my nerves and gave me the comfort to just have fun. And that we did! It’s always been my favorite job. The entire cast was the best 💫 @yvettenicolebrown @thomaspatricklennon @lindsaysloaneyup
You are way to young to go. 💔 you will be remembered so dearly. #ripmatthewperry
From Carla Renata on Instagram:

I was fortunate enough to work with Matthew Perry twice on The Odd Couple. Once as a stand-in for Sheryl Underwood and secondly as a Guest Star playing a singing choir nemesis to my real life friend @yvettenicolebrown .

I had admired his comic genius for years and was beyond excited to witness his work up close and personal.

When the news broke he had left this realm, a wave of sadness washed over my spirit.

I am a diehard fan and find myself feeling this loss deeply, but not nearly as much as his parents, siblings, friends and former co-stars who always showed concern for his well being.

Although, his passing is a tremendous loss, it is my sincere hope his spirit is finally able to rest in peace 🙏🏽

Sad The saddest month for sitcoms.

This has been the saddest month in sitcom history: First Suzanne Somers, then Richard Moll, and now Matthew Perry we have lost in the past few weeks.

I know he had a substance abuse problem and that I am sure that shortened his life. So sad for his parents. I assume both are alive.

Damn. For 2 years Matthew Perry was my boss, my colleague, and a giving, kind, funny man. I pray and hope he is at peace.
From Lindsay Sloane on Instagram:

I don’t really understand the social media posts when you lose a friend. Mourning is painful and personal and it feels weird to do it publicly. But when you lose someone that the world viewed as THEIR friend, it feels different. Because as much as I have loved reading about the way his comedy and timing touched people and brought them joy, these stories are lacking the personal side of this very public man. I felt moved to share this side of Matty after reading a quote going around where he said that when he goes, he hopes that Friends is far down the list of what people are talking about and that what he really wants to be remembered for is how he helped people. I know when he said those words he was mainly speaking about his desire to be there for other addicts that have been tortured by the horrific disease that infected him for so long, but…he actually helped me in a very different way. I met Matty almost exactly 20 years ago and from the moment we met, we just took a liking to each other. We made each other laugh and enjoyed each other’s company. We would dip in and out of each others lives socially but every few years I would get a text from him saying that he is writing something for me and he really hopes that the job happens. And eventually… one of those things was made, and then another, and then another. Matty championed me in this business in a way that is so incredibly rare. He rooted for me. And in rooting for me, put his reputation on the line to insist that people hire me. He believed in me when the business had robbed me of the belief in myself. It’s just so rare for someone to follow through on something like that. To hold on to the belief in others in spite of obstacles that may come their way. He stood firmly in his opinion of me and I felt so incredibly honored. Every time I would film a scene or read one of the things he wrote for me, he would turn to me and say “thanks for making me look good, kid”. There were no words that could fully express my gratitude to him but it never stopped me from trying. He knew my love for him wasn’t about the “job” but the deep appreciation I felt for being “seen” by him. (Continued in comments)

(2) And I know in return, he felt seen by me. Being friends with an addict is incredibly complicated, and we weren’t without our challenges, but at the end of the day I just wanted him to feel my love for him. I was committed to pushing that love through the cloud of self loathing he was enveloped in. I pray that my words sunk in. If only for a moment here and there. Matty loved Batman. His obsession vacillated between sweet and creepy for me. He found a lot of joy in seeing how weirded out I was about it all and would send me pictures of all of the places in his homes that he dedicated to the fictitious character. I never really understood his obsession until now- and yes I’m projecting but this is the **** we do to try to heal from loss- Matty wanted to be a superhero. He liked the idea of “saving” others and being adored and needed for the real him, not the public him. And I get that because we all need to live a life where we feel “adored” and “needed”. At the end of the day, he was a superhero in my life and I feel so lucky for all of it. Rest in peace Mattman. ❤️

I didn't know him well, I was not a Friends follower, but I heard a lot of the years. The reasons for this death are all over the net....just when you think one way, another reason pops in, people would like to know the truth, they followed him for a long time....they were his fans.

Thomas Lennon remembers Odd Couple co-star Matthew Perry

Quote:
“Reno 911!” star Thomas Lennon worked closely with Matthew Perry on the CBS remake of “The Odd Couple,” which aired for three seasons and 38 episodes from 2015 and 2017. Perry developed and executive produced the show (with Danny Jacobson and Joe Keenan) and starred as Oscar Madison, opposite Lennon as Felix Unger. Lindsay Sloane, Yvette Nicole Brown and Wendell Pierce also starred in the series, based of course on the Neil Simon play (later made famous as a TV sitcom in the 1970s). It was a reunion for Lennon and Perry, who also worked together on the 2009 film “17 Again.” In that comedy, Perry and Lennon play best friends. Variety asked Lennon to offer his memories of working with Perry over the years; below, he shares this tribute.

Matthew Perry told me a lot of stories—none of which can be printed in Variety.

Matty lived messy.

Matty had huge feelings and was not afraid to make you a part of those feelings.

A comedy sword-swallower using real swords. The swords hurt.

Matty was a cartoon mascot for anxiety wrapped in the packaging of a matinee idol.

Canadian tennis pro. Heartthrob with a racing heart. Playwright. Accidental superstar.

Matty had a lot of pain. He wore it on his sleeve.

Matty would lend you his jacket which smelled like cigarettes and still had the pain right there on the sleeve.

Matty would lend you cigarettes.

Matty joked when he was worried and he was worried more than you might think.

The butt of Matthew Perry’s best jokes was always Matthew Perry.

Matty admitted when he had messed-up which was constantly.

Matty was easy to forgive.

The world that was in the palm of his hand was in a tug-of-war with the world on his shoulders.

Matty was always trying to get better.

Matty was ready to talk.

Matty didn’t want to be alone.

Matty wanted to make you laugh even if swallowing the swords hurt.
