New sound stages are planned. They can just film everything against green screen and add houses and buildings in digitally. Which always looks terrible. Real facade houses/buildings add much better realism to a scene.

The interiors of these houses are basically not habitable. There was a guy on Youtube walking through some of them, actually expecting (or maybe he was good at lying) to see the soundstage layout. The houses are mostly shells with gutted interiors.

Everything is getting cleared out. The Bewitched house may already be gone. Some of these structures have the letter K on them as seen here...maybe that means they are Keeping them once disassembled. There was a rumor some buildings would be kept but not confirmed.

In this recent photo as the lot is cleared you can see how thin the Bewitched House facade was. There's not much depth at all past the front section where the den would have been.

The house is totally gone as of today, as is the old "Hazel/Gidget" house. See this youtube video. Copy and paste it into your browser address bar. Very sad.

Sad That's progress?

I feel like blowing taps. That's a crime both those "houses" should have been preserved and kept out. Even for a tourist attraction it would have been good. Maybe if they wanted that land for a parking lot or whatever the fools decide to do with it they still could have moved those house facades somewhere else.

Oh well, just like the people who once were supposed to live there are gone, I suppose it's only fair the houses should be gone too. I don't like the idea that a house or car should outlive it's owner. But still I wish they had been preserved.

Oh No Show Me No More

Oh, I can't watch. I just started to watch that video of those icons of houses being torn down. I could only watch the first 30 or 40 seconds I had to turn it off. It was like watching a murder.

Right, HazelAnyday, it’s very sad. I’m so glad I own both Bewitched and Hazel on DVD so I can watch them anytime. These houses were icons and important characters in each show. I also feel the same about the Jeannie/Father Knows Best house. If you watch closely, you can even see the Hazel and Jeannie houses in some of the original Three Stooges shows, that were also filmed at Columbia Studios.

I think it's just terrible. So much history just gone. With the house now gone, Bewitched is finally and completely a past memory. It's a shame too as physical sets and building facades outside add a touch of realism to TV and movies. CGI is just cold and lifeless.

Michael Learned was talking about fans of The Waltons and how passionate they are. But in another twenty years or so no one will even remember the show (due to progress and the passing of years).
