Default Bewitched House Destroyed

according to a Youtube account, the Warner Bros Ranch has been torn down to be developed into sound stages - which required the destruction of the Bewitched house (although he misnames it as the Sabrina Teenage Witch house).

It's a long video tour, but in the first couple of minutes the plans are detailed. The Bewitched house can be seen at around 4 minutes.

There are (or were) several Screen Gems houses in that area.

I knew about the plans to raze the area (Mark Simpson was trying to get a tour there beforehand) but has it actually happened yet?

So very sad. Also leveled was the house from Christmas Vacation, the town and the pool from Gremlins (the pool was also used in Vacation), Danny Glover's home from Lethal Weapon and the house from WandaVision. Also, the fountain and the street scene from the opening of Friends! So many other major film and tv moments just razed to the ground... Mr and Mrs. Kravitz's house was torn down too, of course!

I believe so. The video was not allowed to be uploaded (at the studio's request) until it was too late (for fans) to do anything about it.

I always took a kind of comfort that the Bewitched house facade was still around...but I guess we have the real house it was based on still here (although reversed design).

Really a shame, you would think moving the facade to another location would've been well worthwhile.

A tragedy. That Screen Gems neighborhood still included the Bewitched house, the Blondie/Donna Reed/Dennis the Menace house, the Tony Nelson/Jeannie house, the Partridge Family house and the park seen in all those shows (and Friends). (the Gidget house was already torn down I think).

I have some snaps from the 90s of me peeking into the Stephens front window like Mrs. Kravitz (had a friend who worked on that lot at the time).

Guess it was a miracle it lasted this long...

Back in the early 90s when Nick-at-Nite was showing all the classics, and progressive dinner parties were still a fad -- I thought it would be a great promotional event to have a progressive dinner party on the old Screen Gems lot - serving to prize-winning guests in the front yards of the facades.

Start at Samatha and Darrin's for martinis (double) and hors douvres, then to Shirley Partridge's for a salad, then to Tony and Jeannie's for an Arabian feast main course and wind up at Donna Reed's for cake and coffee.

I look at this way. The houses have been used for ? 60+ years and I wondering if new tv shows want new houses to use to film their programs. Many people of the past 60+ years will say, Thats the house they used for Bewitched and that odd why is Fred Jones living there. They may just want fresh looks.

I believe the plan is to build "state of the art" sound-stages. So you will see more CGI neighborhoods and very few actual on location houses. The "real" world is slipping away into computer generated junk.

I didn't realize this was announced some time ago. Here's a link to what it's supposed to look like...

The new design looks like a computer chip when seen from above. That's probably appropriate considering what hollywood has become.
