While the majority of this is correct, I should mention something. First of all, Friday and Gannon did not go undercover when at the Adam & Eve Lonely Hearts Club. When they first meet "Eve" (Virginia Gregg's character) they ientified themselves as police officers. She even scoffed at them thinking they had a black-and-white out front when Friday told her it was unmarked vehicle. When they go the party, they still aren't undercover. They went around to the guests asking if they recognized the drawings of the suspect and to get valuable information.
As for the movie not being shown until January of 1969, that's because NBC loved the movie from the start and wanted Webb to immediately begin filming for the revival series. I think it was shelved because now that the revival series was being made, it wouldn't make sense to show the movie with Gannon retiring. A new ending needed to be filmed and that didn't come about until two years later. The end scene with Friday buttoning up his shirt after his physical and meeting Gannon after nine months of retirement at Pismo Beach was filmed in 1968. As I stated above, the original ending had Gannon retiring and if they were to air the movie as is, then it would not have made any sense that he was still with Friday in the series. So, a new ending was shot. -Kristi |
