See, all of my Family when I was growing up only used touchtone phones, never rotary phones.

Tiny tidbit about rotary phones and touchtone phones.

It wasn't a matter of being a cheapskate and choosing not to be hip and buy a newer touchtone phone. The phone line had to be "upgraded" for a newer telephone to work. I didn't know that and bought one as a Xmas present for my parents because I felt embarrassed that my home phone was still rotary when my schoolmates came to visit.

My mom loved the idea of a new phone, my dad wasn't impressed and knew better. The new phone didn't work. It sat unused in the closet for 7 years until the phone company upgraded the outdoor line (I lived out in the sticks).
