Default This show is definitely dated because of all the references they made

and I didnt know who the hell they was talking about.

Like who RONA BARRETT and DEBBIE BOONE were

When I was a teen I didnt know who the Waltons were when they made reference

JJ also made a reference when I was grown and didnt know he was referencing a TV show that was on the air in the 70's called Rich Man Poor Man

I believe the show made indirect reference to the busing problem in Boston during Michael's Bussing episode

Good Times debuted 49 years ago, so of course it's chock full of a lot of outdated references in 2023.

Here are a lot of outdated references.

James is excited about a job that pays $4.25 an hour. In 2023, Minimum wage is like $11.

The Evans use rotary phones. In 2023, rotary phones basically don't exist anymore.

Florida gives Thelma a dime to call her from a payphone in case of an emergency. Payphones cost about.50 cents now OF you can find one. Nowadays, Thelma would have her own cellphone to call Florida.

Florida mentions Marshall Fields. Marshall Fields has went out of business almost 17 years ago.

The President during Good Times was Richard Nixon. Now it's Joe Biden.

The Evans Rent is $100. In 2023, Rent is like $2,300.

JJ got TWO big Mac meals at McDonald's for him and Henrietta for about $6. In 2023, he would have spent like $22 for two big Mac meals at McDonald's.

During Good Times, a Chinese meal, a movie ticket plus popcorn and a coke was about $5. In 2023, a Chinese meal(example, Chicken chow mein with pork fried rice, egg roll, and egg drop soup is about $9, a movie ticket (about $20 for an Adult IMAX ticket plus large popcorn(about $8, and a large coke (about $6) would be like $43!

That’s why I kinda want to see what Good Times would look like in the 2020s because there would most likely be mentions of

Inflation
Kevin Samuels and YouTube
Social media apps like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
Michael wanting that new iPhone 13
Florida wanting a Smart TV
J.J. not paying attention or listening to anyone because he’s too busy in his room all day focusing on being a “professional gamer”
Biden as President
Tyler Perry
Rapper Cardi B throwing a mic at a fan who splashed water on her
COVID-19
Ike and Tina Turner’s abusive relationship
James not wanting to take the kids to McDonald’s ‘cuz “that mess cost too much”
James getting mad with Florida because she likes to wear her bonnet around the house and in public all the time
Thelma and Wilona helping Florida set up a “TikTok” account
Tupac and Biggie Smalls
Michael wanting to watch Family Feud because a black man (Steve Harvey) hosts it now
J.J. being a fan of Rick and Morty and Family Guy

The Evans were poor, so they wouldn't be able to afford some of the stuff on your list.... :/

I know, that’s why I said they would have WANTED some of the stuff instead of HAVING it. Could you imagine a scene between James and Michael where Michael is asking his father for an iPhone 13?

Michael: Daddy, I want a iPhone 13.

James: Well, I sure hope you WANT to pay for it with ya’ own money.

Michael: Come on, daddy. Could you please get me one? Please?

James: Boy, I’m fixin’ to give you an Ass Whooping-13 if you don’t get the hell out my face!

It surprises me that people in their 20s today say they wouldn't even know how to USE a rotary phone! What doesn't makes sense is, if you look in the toy department, they STILL SELL toy rotary phones for children just like they did when I was little, so you'd think people wouldn't be THAT lost in regards to them

I have a desk phone and wall phone in my house, and I can't believe the looks I get, it's sad in a way

I wouldn't know how to use a rotary phone either. When I was BORN in 1984, rotary phones were already passe and phones were touchtone phones. I know with rotary phones, you have to do some kind of ring motion with your finger...a

I was born in 1980 and I never even THOUGHT about people not knowing how to use one lol But then again, I was raised around them quite a bit, many of the older people in my family still had them
