Which show did you like better? I saw What's Happening Now 7 years ago on DVD and thought it was just as entertaining as the original 70's sitcom.

I like both, but I would give a slight edge to What's Happening Now.

What’s Happening was better. WHN had some funny moments, but also had some 80s corniness!

I have tried to understand and warm up to the character of Nadine, but she's too cynical for my taste. I prefer the original to the 80's version.

This question was posed elsewhere online and one thing that really stood out is that both shows in their own ways were arguably, not that great to begin with.

With What's Happening!! the argument that's out there is that it felt like a show about black people that white people who didn't know anything about black people wrote. Family Matters also you could say, had that "vibe" over a decade or so later. It clarify, What's Happening!! felt like it had people who used to write for the Brady Bunch writing for them. And because of that, it just feels so feels so bland and corny when looking at it from a more mature perspective.

Meanwhile, the issue with What's Happening Now!! is that it really didn't have much of a purpose at the end of the day. It was a revival series about kids who became adults, but Raj and Rerun felt like they were in their 30s (because they were in real life) instead of their mid-20s like they should have been. The stories as a whole, felt like cliched sitcom fare, and there was nothing special about it.
