You know the ones where a kind of nerdy character is assumed to be bad at pool, is actually pool shark, and the live studio audience claps and "wooos". For example, Steve Urkel on Family Matters:
![]() Uncle Phil on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: ![]() ![]() Danny Tanner on Full House: There was even an episode of My Three Sons from as far back as 1965 with this plot as well. And Boy Meets World did this so much they even made fun of themselves for it in the "Eric Hollywood" episode. |

You can probably add any show that Jim Backus guest started in. He was an avid pool player. He even played on Gilligan’s Island.

There was an Odd Couple episode where Oscar had to beat Sure Shot Wilson in a pool match in order to win the money for costumes for Felix's opera club production of Madame Butterfly.

I’m surprised that the Beverly Hillbillies’ “bill-e-yard table” hasn’t been mentioned. It took a few years for them to understand, but con man Mr. Farquhar told Jed, “did you know that you can play a GAME on this?” His aim was to cheat Jed, thinking Jed knew nothing about how to shoot, ricochet, etc.
Little did Mr Farquhar know…. ![]() cd Edit: Now I see your sentence, 24/7. Also there’s The Honeymooners ep “The Bensonhurst Bomber”, where Ralph and Norton bullied a little guy about whose table it was at the pool hall, only for the wimp to call on his friend Harvey…. |

How about The Dick Van Dyke show episode where Buddy's brother turns out to be a pool shark? I watched that just last night.

There was another Honeymooners “Lost” ep, released in thr 1985 package. It was hilarious, but it would NEVER fly today….
Ralph and Norton weren’t talking to each other (again), and Ralph needed a partner, so he brought Alice, and trained her along while they had their “date.” It went like so: (Alice is ready to shoot) Ralph: WAAAAIIIIT a minute! You have to name the ball you’re shooting at! Alice: What is its name?? Ralph (getting exasperated, pointing to the ball): Just call it. Alice: Okay, I will shoot the strawberry red one. [Pool hall patrons laugh hysterically] [Ralph gives the patrons a hard time] [Alice misses, and maybe slips and scratches the felt surface] Ralph: Okay, my turn. 12 ball in the corner pocket. Patrons: WHY DON’T YOU HIT THE STRAWBERRY RED ONE?! Hahahahaha! Mr. Gannucci can clarify this one! cd |

Happy Days - "Knock Around the Block"
Richie and the gang try to get Potsie's bike back from the gang who stole it. Sanford and Son - "A House is Not a Pool Room" Lamont suffers buyer's remorse after the pool table he gave Fred for his birthday brings the boys over for billiards every day while Fred's work and girlfriend Donna go neglected. I found this photo in another thread. https://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards...d.php?t=322769 |
