Doing a Father Knows Best stunt/marathon for Fathers Day in 2023 is--well, amazing.

It's something TV Land might have done 20 years ago.

Antenna TV doesn't care about programming - they care about Commercials. They run more commercials than any network on TV. Programming is as cheap as they can get it (most of their shows can be found for free on Roku). They constantly run one commercial after another and they make horrific cuts in shows. It is impossible to watch.

Yet another Father Knows Best marathon is hardly anything new or special. Better and fresher marathons for Father's Day this year would have been Bachelor Father or Diff'rent Strokes (yes an 80s show but they have worse stuff from the Rewind era on their schedule like Designing Unfunny Women).

As I said, the entire thing is a set up to be an infomercial. I have to get up early to go to work, I turned on Burns & Allen - they literally had Burns give a straight line and cut it off for a commercial before you could see Allen give the punch line. It is ridiculous.

I gave up on this channel long ago and I haven’t looked back. I don’t miss it one bit. Plenty of much better options for most of these shows.

Their entire ad structure is schlock commercials, involving either contributions to questionable charities, iffy Medicare ads (Medicare contracts should go only to known companies), (as you say) infomercial-style ads, some of which go a full five minutes, or other dubious ads.

A problem which has gone on for years is incorrect clock sync with Antenna TV and its affiliates. I thought it was the fault of the local affiliate, but a friend in the New York market tells me it happens there, too. The Antenna TV clock is slower than the affiliate clocks (by about a second) and their middle break goes right to a local ad. So the last second of show (often involving dialog) gets chopped, because everything runs so tight now. It's really unprofessional and needs to be corrected. But of course it won't be.

As someone else suggested Antenna TV could run these on the weekends like they did with My Mother the Car, It’s About Time, The Paul Lynde Show, and Lotsa Luck.

One could say that the one thing dated about The Bob Newhart Show is the seeming insensitivity to mental illness that wouldn’t work today….however the character patients were likable (even Mr. Carlin), and Bob did his best to help.

cd
Actually The Bob Newhart Show treated mental health issues very well. There was no real disrespect towards and of the "patients". My dad, who was a psychiatrist, had this show on his "must see" list. And he was really compassionate towards his patients and those with mental health issues.

But I still enjoy watching these shows because of the nostalgia, it's like meeting up with an old friend and finding out things are still the same, I guess that's why the classic shows are called comfort TV.

And from an acting and visual viewpoint, I also prefer classic shows over the current ones.
One other medical based program that I like watching for historical value is Emergency. It's interesting to see how things have changed in terms of safety equipment like gloves, mask, goggles, etc. It's odd watching the paramedics, doctors, and nurses working without them.

But what other show could turn a teen idol into a real life paramedic?

All pluses for me. Great shows. All three have episodes on YouTube. Good Morning World came out on DVD as well.
