I don't know what CBS was thinking when they greenlighted this mess, I watched the series when Antenna TV acquired it, I couldn't believe how bad it was. The network would have been better served trying to get another season out of My Favorite Martian. This was the third series Frank Aletter on CBS during the 60's all three lasted just one season. It was the second consecutive series Aletter was in that changed the premise during the season.
"However, apparently, the show did well in summer reruns, so it COULD have seen its cancellation reversed" I don't believe it. Summer rerun season was never considered a reliable indicator of how a show would perform when placed up against new episodes of returning series. Branch Rickey when commenting on an entirely different subject once made this very astute observation which seems apropos, "the most dangerous time in the life of a General Manager is March and September. |
