I feel we needed just one more season to answer some questions...
Cheri and her fiancée get married Mike, Allen and Margaux return and we find out more on their lives after 1988 Punky and Travis get back together We find out exactly what Henry and Mrs. Johnson died of and what years What happened to Punky’s Place We didn’t get to see any of that and if there was a season 2 that’s all we really needed. |

Aww man, they always cancel the good shows. I feel this was one of the few really good reboots. It' was fun seeing Punky as an adult. At least the last episode she got closure with her mother.

It's disappointing, though not that surprising. Loved seeing Punky grown-up, though Izzy is no Punky, and didn't have the charisma that Soleil had as a child.

I'm kind of not surprised considering that unlike Saved by the Bell or Full House, Punky Brewster hasn't been rerun that much since the '90s. So viewers in their 20s or younger likely aren't going to right away, flock to something that they really didn't grow up watching. It also isn't like it fostered much in nostalgia points compared to those other two shows.

I am only just watching it now. I did not have Peacock 2 years ago when it started. It’s much better than I expected.
I suspect that the real problem this show started Peacock itself. It had very low visibility as a streamer. It’s only in the last year or so that it’s gotten signature shows that draw people to it. An executive at NBC/Peacock said that traditional sitcoms do not work well for streaming. They learned that from Punky and Saved by the Bell. Comedies that work on streaming are a completely different storytelling with arcs. Night Court is old school but right on NBC. It’s unlikely but I wonder if NBC would consider reviving this on the actual network. There is also fears of upcoming writers strike. If production is shutdown they could air this. Most people never saw. |
