Judy vanishing after season 4.

I didn't mind Rachel leaving, but to keep Richie on the show without his mom was stupid.

Recasting Harriet in the final season. They could have had Harriet away for the last half of the 9th season. IF the show got renewed for a 10th season, THEN they could decide what to do with her (recast or kill her off).

I almost forgot. The biggest thing I HATE about Family Matters is that for the reruns, DVD, and streaming versions of the first season episodes, they added cold openings with Steve Urkel in four of the pre-Urkel episodes. Everything else pales in comparison to me.

I second this. To me, the show wasn't the same when Waldo got written out. It was also weird to see Weasel disappear too after season five ended.

God bless you always!!!

Bah, Weasel never was that interesting to me.
I will agree about Waldo though, but he was at least given a reason for leaving the show unlike Judy.

I don't see how I will ever be able to forgive them for having Steve choose Laura over Myra, so that is this show's biggest mistake to me.
But in retrospect, they shouldn't have fired Jaimee Foxworth either.

Getting rid of the youngest daughter Judy without any explanation midway through the show's run. When the show focused more on Urkel. He had one of the worst sitcom laughs in TV history.

Obviously, the writers had run out of ideas of what to do with Judy.
They couldn't have known that people would still talk about that decision thirty years later.

Steve was their clear break-out character, so it seemed smart to focus on him.
Yet again, they had no idea that people would disagree with their decision decades later.

To me, the 9th season is a very mixed bag.

Yeah, you all know how much I hate that Steve and Laura had to get together for... reasons.
And I could only feel sympathy for Myra no matter how much the writers villified her.
However, they managed to get some good storylines and episodes with other characters.
I liked it when we saw Eddy decide to become a cop and learn to not be so trigger-happy.
I liked it when Carl and Harriette adopted 3J and we learned more about his mother.
And I even liked the episode about OGD Urkel...

The fact that Steve Urkel overshadowed the rest of the characters later on. I get that Steve was easily the show's most popular character, and that without him, it wouldn't have lasted nearly as long as it did, but I feel it could have used more balance in focus between him and the Winslows.

That's one of the reasons I prefer the first four seasons over the later ones. Steve was there, but the family still got plenty of focus too. In the later seasons, the family might get the B plot, but Steve would almost always have the A plot.

Stefan and the overuse of scifi stuff that wasn't even supposed to be a part of the show. The Urkel Bot was a bit too much, but the line should have been drawn there.
