Default Eve Arden's Stardom...how big?

How much of a star was Eve Arden in the 50's? My 1st exposure to her was Our Miss Brooks, but in the last couple of weeks I seen her guest star AS a star in I Love Lucy AND My Three Sons. I have been fond of her since I discovered OMB (in reruns on Nick/TV Land), any insight on her popularity?

In my opinion, Eve arden was a very big star in the 50's thanks to Our Miss Brooks. I still remember her cameo on I Love Lucy at the Brown Derby. She had such a dry wit. In the 60's she did The Mother In Laws wit hKaye Ballard and I thought that she was great

She was quite-well-known already from her movie roles (over 50 films before Our Miss Brooks throughout the thirties and forties) - never the leading lady but usually a substantial supporting role.

Default EVE

After the demise of OUR MISS BROOKS, she had another good sitcom
called THE EVE ARDEN SHOW. There are about 4 circulating episodes
of that sitcom (co-starring Francis Bavier). Should've had a longer run.
And, she was in the fun MOTHERS-IN-LAW 1967-69 with KAYE BALLARD.
A wild and wacky up-dated version of I LOVE LUCY, produced by Desi Arnaz himself. Sadly, the show was buried in the Sunday at 8:30 time slot on NBC and didn't get the ratings nor the recognition it deserved.
I also have one UNSOLD pilot which EVE did in which her character's name
is Christine, and she gets a job for a big company in London, England.

She did quite a few motion pictures with Joan Crawford, including “Mildred Pierce”, “Goodbye My Fancy” (this one with Robert Young “Jim Anderson” Father Knows Best years) She was good friends with Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz as well, she did the sitcom “The Mother In Laws” another Desi Arnaz production. She does a great episode of “Maude” as Maude Findlay’s Aunt, truly hilarious as she & Mrs. Nogatuck viciously attack each other!

Eve Arden was in a lot of movies and she did Our Miss Brooks on radio for years before she did it on TV. One thing about Eve, she ALWAYS played herself, no matter what role she performed. She had her own unique style that carried with her from role to role.

Cool Our Miss Brooks Does My 3 Sons

She was also in a b/w episode of My 3 Sons where I think she has to watch Tramp or something about her being a "big star" on a train? Well, I don't remember much, obviously, but I do remember she was definitely on My 3 Sons b/w episode.

Let's not forget that she was the Rydell High principal in both "Grease" and" Grease 2"(her final movie role) ! I wonder how Mr. Conklin would have reacted had he bumped into her since "OMB" was set in roughly the same era!

On the M3S episode Eve Arden was a traveling celebrity (can't remember if she was playing herself) on a train. Somehow Tramp ended up on the train and she became attached to him. Through a series of incidents Chip got him back.

Was she always cast as the snappy, snarky best friend? Even as Nurse Kelton on Bewitched, Eve Arden was quick with the snappy lines and witty remarks.

I have always loved her. She does have a dry wit and that appeals to me. Both she and Beatrice Arthur are two of my favorites.

I think she played Maude's mother on an episode of that show. I think she had the same dry wit. As has been said, that's Eve--I'll bet if she wasn't written tht way, she wouldn't do the part.
