Was the problem with Our Miss Brooks the writing

In film, Eve Arden was the essence of tart, wry sophistication, even when playing a diner owner. But did the writing of her sitcoms bring her down to be little more mildly amusing smart-aleck? Every so often a bit of the classic Eve Arden wit would surface:

Daisy Enright (Mary Jane Croft): "When I was in my teens, there weren't very many stars on television." Connie Brooks: "When you were in your teens, there weren't many stars on the flag."

Personally I liked her in her sitcom and radio show, Our Miss Brooks. She's a good comedian. I also liked her roles in the 1959 movie "Anatomy of a Murder" and several other roles where she played supporting roles.

She had good lines like this all thru OMB. The major problem with the show wasn't Miss Brooks, it was the Walter Denton character, played by Richard Crenna. Not only was the character annoying, but the pal relationship he had with Miss Brooks wasn't anywhere near plausible. No student and teacher should or probably would be chummy like that
