The George Carlin Show

The George Carlin Show was a sitcom that aired on Fox Broadcasting from January 1994 to July 1995. It was created jointly by veteran TV producer Sam Simon and the show's namesake, comedian George Carlin. The series centered around George O'Grady (Carlin), a taxi cab driver living in New York City. The show, for the most part, took place in The Moylan Bar, run by bartender Jack Donahue (Anthony Starke). The setting's real-life basis was the now-defunct Moylan Tavern, a younger Carlin's neighborhood bar on Broadway between La Salle Street and Tiemann Place in the Morningside Heights neighborhood, and owned by the grandparents of film critic and author Maitland McDonagh.

This is a brand new set of the series that I put together from recently found new episodes and some from the older, fair-average quality set that's been around for some time. There were 27 episodes of the series in total and we now have 75% of these in Excellent condition. This is a must have for any Carlin fan out there.

Short-Lived Sitcom Potpourri (XV)

Thoughts: This vehicle for the iconic George Carlin was co-created by Sam Simon (of Cheers and The Simpsons) and looks like a replacement Cheers, with a “hangout” ensemble centered in a city bar. But these folks are a little rougher around the edges, and they’re not quite as well-defined; aside from Alex Rocco’s and Christopher Rich’s roles, there’s a vagueness to the other leads that precludes the show from being genuinely character-driven like the best of Simon’s work.
