My hometown was in the Central Time Zone and Prime Time to us was 7pm-10pm. The local news was at 6pm, then a syndicated program like a game show (Wheel of Fortune or Jeoprady) at 6:30.
Prime time begins at 7pm until 10pm. Local news at 10pm and then the Tonight Show (and later the other similar shows) or SNL on Saturdays at 10:30pm. I lived in Las Vegas in the early 1990's and Prime Time was 8pm to 11pm, local news at 11pm and then Tonight Show/SNL at 11:30pm. I didnt like that at all. Everything was on so late. Especially having to wait for Johnny Carson or SNL until 11:30pm. By then a lot of us had VCRs and could tape it if we wanted to, but in the 1970's people didnt have even that, and maybe there was someone interesting on Johnny Carson and having to wait until midnight to see them. Some of us have to get up in the morning. I made a thread about this here a while back. I will say now, that one does not have to watch their show at the time it is broadcasted. Because of technology, we can watch TV anytime we want at our convenience. The networks are considering cutting down an hour of Prime Time to cut costs, there is so much competition, and besides, people dont have to watch any show at any exact time. |
