I have The Jetsons Complete First Season (Original episodes) DVD! Were the episodes that were made in the '80's as good as the original ones? All the actors who portrayed the voices were still around, but I wonder if they were able to continue where they left off 2 decades earlier!

No it was not as good as the original Jetsons. Not even close in my opinion. Literally everything about the 1980s version was average--at best. The voices often sounded different on some of the characters. The stories, writing, jokes etc.were really not nearly as good or clever as the original.Even the animation was not quite as good.Plus they introduced a stupid new character that messed it up even more. .--To this day I'll only watch the early 1960s version of The Jetsons.

Don't take my word for it, but others have said the 1985-87 revival episodes were awful especially when placed next to the original episodes from 1962-63.
The animation style for one thing, was a big turn off. It was a pseudo-3-D animation that just looks unappealing. Also, the plots could be incredibly boring and formulaic. |

Yes, I think this is one reason why MeTV shows only the original first season.
I think MeTV is also sourcing from the BluRay set that came out a few years ago, which restored the show from the original ABC masters. |

I thought the 80's version had a few good episodes, but I will agree that the overall quality wasn't nearly as good as the first season. I did notice the different style of drawing the characters, and I did notice that the voices of George Jetson and Cogswell sounded different, even though I think they had the same voice actors as the first season- I guess Daws Butler (Cogswell) was just old, and George O' Hanlon (George Jetson) was old and sick (he had had a stroke).

I really can't criticize the 80s show, having never seen it. I searched for an episode on Youtube, but was only able to find the intro. It was in wide stereo, had added sound effects, and sounded pretty good. Visually it was the same but the whole audio part had probably been redone.
