It seems she was fairly maternal in season 1, but after the show was shaken up, the Core Four confirm she was not maternal after that: She was a businesswoman.

Actually, Charlotte said the girls were "politely distant". She (Charlotte) couldn't change from one year to another

She was talking about the Core Four after the show change. Charlotte could definitely change due to severe workplace changes between seasons 1 and 2. That would shake anyone up! lol

I'm with '80s on this one: both Julie Anne and Julie Pie described Charlotte as very kind on the set, both of them describing instances where she reached out to them and helped them get through difficult scenes.

The Core Four, in contrast, often described Charlotte as more distant, stating that she was professional, but not mothering.

Then again, the girls did get by with pulling cigarettes out of Charlotte's mouth, so maybe things were more informal than they've let on.

Or maybe it was a mixture. Geri describes her time with Charlotte as alternately accepting and rejecting. Heck, maybe "Charlotte" was played by twins!

I love how these ads looked like a blend of illustration and photography (it's kind of surreal)

Here is an vintage TV listing in “Valley Morning Star” - Harlingen, TX on Friday, August 19, 1979 describing Charlotte Rae's new series with 5 girls.

Right?

BUT...

as 80s Dude pointed out in another thread where he shared this, this was probably written before Cindy and Natalie were created, when the show did originally have 5 girls instead of 7.

Very fascinating!!

Yes for sure! But I wonder was Jennifer intended to be a regular? She had lines and was introduced by Kimberly

I don't think so. She was never mentioned again and had no parts after The Girls School.

That doesn’t mean they didn’t intend to make her Main at the time of the backdoor pilot. Just like the Crock and Sue Ann being dumb, lots of changes were made between the series and this Ep.

Though we know now that Felice was closest to Julie Anne, who remains the only cast member she seems to stay in touch with. And Felice doesn't remember Julie Pie or working with future legend Molly Ringwald.

I think she remembers working with them, as in "they were on the show," lol, but she seems to not be able to recall anything memorable about working with them (at least, on that fateful interview day).
