It's a little bigger than that for me.
It's the paradox of how self righteous he is about the "need" for the abusiveness, coupled with the professed inability of the entire Reagan clan to understand the public's mistrust of police in general. It's almost like they think the public should be grateful that they are mistreated....in a "this hurts me more than it does you" parental sort of way. And, if you add to that their preoccupation with their emotional scars over the loss of their beloved "Joe"....it makes you want to cry crocodile tears for them. And then with the loss of Linda, we are supposed to care for Danny's feelings even more? Thomas Wilder was a heroic figure in my view, for his knack in being able to hit Danny where he lived. That episode where Wilder snatched Nicky was the best in the entire series, because it threatened to turn the Reagan wrath against one another. |

Might be kind of a neat plot twist if they worked in a little "Peyton Place" aspect? Suppose Nicky Reagan-Boyle was to come back to the show and it turns out she had been sent away to a maternity farm to have Thomas Wilder's baby.....
And the kid continually does little things that set Danny off? Little things like hanging his stuffed toys around the wall of his play pen.. convincing Danny that it's a sign of trouble, all the while the rest of the clan assure him he is exaggerating. I'd like to see how far they might go with such a theme. Might even be spin-off material? |

The only time that I am not on Danny's side is during the season two finale when him and Jamie get into it about Joe. When Danny doesn't like what he hears from Jamie after he pretty much makes Jamie come clean about it all, he just loses it all over his kid brother and to me that wasn't fair. To me, if there is a 50/50 chance that you are not going to like whatever it is that you are about to hear, don't go bothering whoever it is that you are interrogating in the first place.

^^^ Because of what the detective job entails, I can't blame Danny for the way that he is with certain people while on the job.

^^^ Most of the people that Danny deals with are as dirty as they come even when they are not who Danny is looking for at the end of the day and so I can't blame him for the way that he puts his suspicious attitude on display.

But I have a strong tendency to put myself in other people's shoes. For example, if I was getting a haircut across the street from a hold up....Danny needs to be grateful for any assistance I might give him. I don't need him roughing me up, or threatening to brand me as an accomplice, simply because I'm not "coughing up" as quickly as his schedule seems to think I should. He's got a very poor way of showing appreciation. Not my fault he came back from Iraq as a ticking timebomb. I realize that it's all scripted, and that the intended audience reaction is that the viewer is supposed to think "Oh, that Danny is my hero, he stuffed that guy's head in a toilet for me" ![]() But I just don't see it that way. |

^^^ To me, Danny was a hero when he rammed that guy's head into the toilet. That man kidnapped a little girl who was going to slip into a diabetic coma if she wasn't found in time.

But he also roughs up innocent bystanders who he believes need to "cough up"...that crosses a line in my book. That could be MY head getting rammed, just because he fancies himself a tough guy.
Maybe our personal experiences are just tremendously different? I've been in some pretty close scrapes with cops where I did nothing wrong except be in the wrong place.....And dealing with the cop to prove "I ain't that one yer looking for" was unpleasant enough even with me being just a bystander. Just (for me) to think what it would be like having to deal with "Commando" Reagan in such a scenario makes me very intolerant of his actions. YMMV Erin, IMO, is usually right about his tainted ethics. |

LOL,...of course, I really can't read your mind either. You might be content to see Danny flush my head too, if he thought that I needed it?
