The Chuck Lorre-produced sitcom about an interpreter from Afghanistan who moves in with his United States Marine Corps veteran friend's family in Ohio will not return for a third season. Deadline's Nellie Andreeva reports that Lorre had two shows on the bubble -- United States of Al and B Positive -- and only one of them was expected to survive. "In light of United States of Al‘s cancellation, B Positive's renewal chances look brighter," says Andreeva, adding: "Also remaining on the bubble at CBS are drama Magnum PI, which had been stuck in renewal conversations with lead studio Universal TV, freshman comedy How We Roll as well as freshman drama Good Sam, which is not looking good." United States of Al's premise found extra relevance last summer as the United States pulled out of Afghanistan after 20 years of war, resulting in writers have to scrap and rewrite their season premiere to reflect current events. United States of Al will air two more episodes, with its series finale scheduled for May 19. |

As trivial as it may seem compared to the other crap that has been going on since the Taliban's blitzkrieg throughout the country, that's what killed the show.

Chuck Lorre isn't ticked off that CBS canceled two of his four comedies, says it took him years to enjoy watching Two and a Half Men again
Lorre, who turns 70 in October, isn't worried about his box scores at this stage of his career, so he isn't really bothered by the recent cancelations of United States of Al and B Positive. Lorre, has, however, become more reflective about his career, particularly with Two and a Half Men 11 years after Charlie Sheen exited by publicly slamming him. "It is really gratifying that what we made still works on some level" Lorre tells Variety. "Time has passed and the episodes with Charlie are a joy to watch. There were a couple of years there where I couldn’t watch it. It was too hurtful. I can enjoy them all now. You know, he did a brilliant job. And the chemistry between him and (co-stars) Jon (Cryer) and Angus (T. Jones) and Holland Taylor and, oh my goodness, Conchata Ferrell, who has passed away. It was a beautiful cast." |
