I don't remember him being a corrupt police officer either except maybe when he fired that woman officer for posing in a magazine. I didn't like his parenting style either. I really disliked him when he slapped Katie and for the time he slapped Julie. I didn't like the chief too much.

Thanks for clarifying. I see what you mean now, although I always thought of Nell and Addie being older than Laverne and Shirley. Nell Carter and Telma Hopkins had good on-screen chemistry, though. If they just took those two and created a new show (even playing different characters and in a different universe), it might've worked better than continuing Gimme A Break in NYC with the Lawrence kids and a few other Glenlawn transplants.

I just (re)learned that Laverne & Shirley moved from Milwaukee to Burbank during the show's later years, so I get what you're talking about now. I don't remember a thing about that, though.

To me, Nell and Addie remind more of Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz. Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance played friends as different characters on 3 different shows, so I think NC and TH could've done the same thing.

The show would have lasted longer if the Chief/Dolph Sweet had lived.

They knew he was going to die. Little hope for advanced stomach cancer.

Dolph Sweet's death also kind of ruined things for Jonathan Silverman's character because it seemed like he was now left with little to nothing to do on the show except get Julie pregnant.
