Default CBS cancels B Positive after two seasons

https://deadline.com/2022/05/b-posit...ns-1234992731/

B Positive marks the second cancelation of a Chuck Lorre comedy in the past 24 hours, after fellow sophomore sitcom United States of Al was also canceled last night. Because of Lorre's standing at CBS, B Positive -- which underwent a creative for Season 2 -- was expected to be renewed. Lorre will still have two comedies on CBS' schedule next season: No. 1 comedy Young Sheldon and Bob Hearts Abishola.

Not that surprised, reinventing a show that’s popular enough is just asking to be canceled

I really loved the first season. I binged it twice before the second season debuted, which is a big deal for me, as I tend not to re-binge a show so close together. I knew that they'd have to make some changes moving forward because the season one finale saw Drew and Gina in the operating room. However, I didn't really like the direction the series took in year two focusing on Gina's new life at the retirement home with all those new characters. It wasn't a complete disaster, just not the show I signed up for. Plus, I only liked one of the newbies: Hector Elizondo's Harry Milton. Other than that, I just cared about the season one characters.

In the end, I'm okay with the cancellation news since season three would have just been more of the same from season two, but I will miss Gina. I feel like she's a classic sitcom character.

I will say this, I thought it would get renewed as I thought the show was doing well in the ratings. Goes to show what I know, ha-ha.

the 2nd season was el-stinko and didn't the main character get accused of abuse of some nature? i'm not surprised it's history

It seemed like they were phasing Drew out of the show during the second season anyway, so I wouldn't have been surprised if they renewed it but without him.

I liked the show well enough especially when they added Jane Seymour, Jim Beaver & Rondi Reed to the mix. A shame it didn't get a third season.

I liked the show when it first came on until Drew got a girlfriend who he finds out has cancer after getting involved with her. I didn’t care for the actress who played the girlfriend so I sort of stopped watching it.

It sort of goes back to a post I made a year ago about what was the show going to be like when Gina gives up the kidney. That’s the story.

The guy who plays Drew has a strange past and life and part of it is open relationships and wife swapping. The guy is an open swinger and doesn’t care who knows.

It's a show about redemption. Drew needed Gina for an opportunity to continue to live and there was a timetable to make that happen and it had to be fast for him. What's often lost is that Gina needed Drew as much. Maybe not right away but if her life was ever to get right, she'd need to change and have some steady stability in it. Valley Hills was part of it but so was Drew. This is often lost I suppose due to the retooling/pivoting of the central concept of the show in the 2nd year but is clearly where the show was going if given more time.

This has nothing to do with the on-air program itself and doesn't affect the story line at all. Just because it's a personal dissatisfaction for you doesn't mean it's a "thing". Not sure why the need is there from so many people to bring it up so much?

I think that it is a "cancel culture" thing.....Such the network not wanting to risk a large investment in an asset that might provoke the @metoo crowd into a boycott.

I thought the first season was a waste, it showed possibility for redemption with the second season changes....but the frustrated relationship aspect was getting tedious, IMO.

I'm glad that it was Gina left wanting in the finale.

Based on the comments inside of Ken Levine's blog, it appears that the makers of B Positive didn't learn anything from The Cool Kids, which was canceled by Fox after only one season. In other words, it's really hard to make a sitcom that's set at a nursing home fly. Think about it this way, do you honestly think that you as a viewer would look forward to the prospect of living in a retirement community, where you or a loved one has cancer or Alzheimer's?

B Positive as it was, already had a good conflict ridden idea. The original premise was that a man who needed transplant, got a new kidney from a freewheeling love interest. But then Gina got rich, bought the old folks home, and Drew became a bit character. In other words, there's just no place for the show to go.

Funny I watched an Ep with my parents and both found it depressing, I imagine most felt that way!

In a way I'm surprised but in a way I'm not.

I thought it might get a 3rd season because there really aren't good comedies out there. But season 2 lost focus from Season 1 & digressed into this nursing home environment which probably lost some viewers & interest.
