Why is it forgotten? Because, says Todd VanDerWerff, "it's become a synonym for a kind of TV that's not cool anymore, dominated more by emotional reactions than high-stakes drama, filled with basically good people trying to do what’s basically the right thing." I was just thinking of Party of Five after I came across this program on Vice TV called Dark Side of the '90s. Scott Wolf was interviewed in the "TV for Teens" episode.
So when I went back to the old TWoP forums (keep in mind that PO5 had only been off the air for over five years at the time) it was already considered a show that had faded from the public's consciousness. The commenters there were of the opinion that PO5 is simply a show that doesn't have a lot of rewatch value. It was pretty depressing, preachy, and not as soapy as a lot of its counterparts. Also, depending on who you ask, the overall quality of the show went down with bad plotlines. So the fan base is not as strong as it could be. |
