Default Maury Povich's Maury is ending this spring after three decades

https://www.nexttv.com/features/piec...2-23-tv-season

Povich, who at 83 has been hosting his hit daytime talk show since 1991, is ending production this spring, reports Broadcasting & Cable. His show will live on in reruns like The Jerry Springer Show. NBC Universal is expected to fill the Maury void with Karamo Brown, hosted by Queer Eye's Brown, who has guest-hosted Maury. Maury boss Paul Faulhaber is expected to executive produce Karamo Brown. NBC Universal has yet to officially pick up Karamo Brown.

I cannot figure out how Maury became such a hit talk show in the first place? Because Maury Povich is a great guy who given the right talk show style makes the show a hit. That's what Maury Povich tried to do with Maury. But I don't know why Maury started to change it's image and have topics that aren't suitable for a talk show with topic titles such as "Help Me My Boyfriend Broke Up With Me Over Money" or "My Mother In Law Thinks I'm Crazy" and when you look at the general picture I think they were trying to give the show an image to compete with Jerry Springer and make Maury exactly like The Jerry Springer Show. But what I think after Maury ends Maury Povich will retire from talk shows and focus on other things but I can expect in a few years he will make a comeback to talk shows again

Crazy

“Maury” is going off the air? I haven’t been this upset since I heard that “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” was ceasing production!

How are we all going to function as caring, feeling people without Maury to show us the way? I can’t even express to you how profoundly moved I’ve been over the years, watching the unfailingly kind and sympathetic Maury, affording the poor unfortunates on his show with his sage and thoughtful advice. It’s so patently apparent that the selfless Mr. Povich wanted nothing more on his longtime television show than to provide mature and practical guidance to these oh-so-obviously lost souls, who routinely bared their most personal and intimate problems on national tv.

I venture to say that, in appreciation of Mr. Povich’s contributions in both aiding his fellow man and woman, and in doing more than anyone else to raise the level of civil discourse in America, President Joe Biden will honor Maury Povich with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition of Mr. Povich’s life as being a great humanitarian and mensch.

No doubt, Connie Chung, the lovely Mrs. Maury Povich, will be filled with justifiable pride, standing there in the White House when her handsome husband receives this oh-so-deserved honor, rightfully putting Mr. Povich up there with the hallowed likes of Hellen Keller, Pope John XXIII, Jesse Owens, Beverly Sills and Nelson Mandela.

Farewell, Mr. Povich. You have always acted to make America a better and more tolerant nation. The name of Povich will now always be synonymous with the words: class and civility.

Wow, Maury Povich finally calling it quits after a long 3 decade run in the Talk Show world. The Upcoming 2022-2023 Daytime TV season will be the first full official season without The Maury Povich Show/The Maury Show involved since the 1990-1991 Daytime TV season.

Several prominent people must be very “saddened” to learn that Maury Povich is leaving the airwaves after thirty years. Former US Secretary of Education Bill Bennett and former US Senator and 2000 Democrat Vice Presidential candidate Joe Lieberman both have opined in the past that Maury Povich’s longtime daytime show has brought “so much” to the level of public discourse in America. Mr. Povich’s television show ranks right up there with such thoughtful and relevant programs as “Sixty Minutes,” “Frontline” and “Firing Line.”

And, Connie Chung (Mrs. Maury Povich), must feel nothing but great pride, if/when she discusses her husband’s longtime television program with her fellow journalists, Dan Rather, Leslie Stahl, Sam Donaldson, Katie Couric and Tom Brokaw.

So, as Mr. Povich was wont to say during his days as the host of “A Current Affair”:

“Until next time, America!” (which will hopefully be never)

Maury Povich: I've wanted to end Maury going back six years

Povich, 83, is speaking out on ending Maury this spring after 31 years, saying in a statement: “Six years ago when I was ready to retire, my the NBCUniversal family asked me to continue the show. Even though I told them I was ready for assisted living, out of loyalty to NBCUniversal and my more than 100 staff and crew members, Tracie Wilson and I agreed to one more deal. I’m so proud of my relationship with NBCUniversal and all those who worked on the Maury show but as I occasionally tell my guests on Maury, ‘Enough, already!'”

My mother and stepfather used to watch this show but I’ve never really watched it and I never had any desire for watching it.

Maury Povich's Maury legacy will be his paternity tests that were the show's "grossest ethical violations"

Povich turned paternity into a circus of shame, says Miles Klee of Maury ending after 31 years. "Beginning in 1998, the show partnered with DNA Diagnostics Center (DDC) to stage dramatic, often humiliating reveals of paternity before a live studio audience," says Klee, adding: "The footage of those babies and toddlers was one of Maury’s grossest ethical violations. I’d argue the disproportionate focus on Black couples was another. Worst of all, though, was the pretense that any of this had to do with helping the guests, or the need to uphold traditional norms. Before opening his little envelope, Povich liked to extract a promise from the potential father that, in the case of a genetic match, he would be 'in' the child’s life. It served as a moral excuse for the spectacle to follow. I cringe today, remembering how I laughed at these scenes, the cruelty toward ordinary people who appeared on TV for a meager paycheck and the chance to establish basic facts about their own lives. Yet if you want to understand the paradoxical theme of 'family values' in American politics — the way a vaguely defined set of ideals is less a blueprint for success than a weapon made to shame and dehumanize — then look no further." ALSO: It's tough saying goodbye to Maury's "very exploitative era" of TV.

Karamo Brown's Karamo daytime talk show cleared for 90% of the U.S. for a fall debut

The Queer Eye star's Karamo is expected to fill the voiced left by Maury Povich's Maury, which Brown has frequently guest-hosted.

Maury Povich is proud of Maury

Quote:
Povich, a former newsman and “A Current Affair” anchor, has outlasted a steady stream of competitors amid shifting viewer tastes to become the longest-running daytime talk show host in broadcast TV history. Premiering in 1991 as “The Maury Povich Show,” “Maury” has carved out its own distinctive niche as a circus of human drama starring outrageous characters and showcasing volcanic disputes among warring families, cheating lovers and deadbeat fathers.

The syndicated series has continued to be a solid performer, attracting a daily average of 1.2 million viewers. Povich’s signature catchphrase (“You are/are not the father”), theatrics, backstage tantrums and the “baby daddy dance” performed when participants are pleased with paternity test results have delighted fans and inspired countless GIFs. The show has also drawn fire from critics who say its images are exploitative and offensive.

“I have no more mountains to climb,” Povich told The Times as he relaxed in a Beverly Hills hotel suite earlier this month. A few hours later, he would receive the Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Award from the National Assn. of Television Programming Executives. Presenting him with the honor was his wife, famed TV journalist and former CBS News anchor Connie Chung.

While many might label “Maury” as lowbrow and disposable, Povich is undeniably proud of the show: “I was able to get as close and intimate with my guests, my audience and my viewers as anyone who has done this type of show. I appreciate the faith and trust they had in me.”

If you were a woman who had long hair, watching Maury somehow you were led to believe that was not a good thing - at all.

I remember one of the "makeovers" in particular, the subject's hair was astoundingly beautiful. So sad to see it lopped off, with the woman in tears.

In my lifetime, I've met many women with long to super-long hair, sometimes even around knee length. In each case they took excellent care of their tresses and really enjoyed all of the compliments they received. I remember a few times when I ran into someone I had known and she was proud or excited to show me the long length she'd retained.

Maury couldn't care less about a woman's years & years of growth and countless hours of care.
