Was Shelley Hack too unconvincing as an ex-cop

In other words, you could within reason, believe that Kate, Jaclyn, Farrah, and Cheryl could get through the police academy. But in Shelley's case, didn't she look awfully geeky and uncoordinated? Plus, she came off as sort of an airhead instead of a rough and tumble cop. Her whispery voice didn't help either. It didn't help that Shelley was brought replacing Kate Jackson, who was seen as the smart one.

IMO, this is the main reason why ratings fell. Kate's departure was the beginning of the end of that show. Jackie and Cheryl were both so stunning, it's really the only reason I watch the 4th and 5th seasons. Shelley never did anything for me at all, she was a bad choice. Tanya was pretty, but she wasn't a very good actress.

Kate Jackson was really the glue that held the show together. It wasn't Shelley's fault and I didn't think she was that bad. Ratings were going to drop no matter who they got to replace Kate.

Compared to Kate, Shelley was very mediocre.

I do agree the show was going to slip no matter who replaced Kate.

That is exactly right. Shelley gets a bad rap. She did fine but she was replacing the "glue" as you speak. The show jumped the shark once Kate left.

According to the "Charlie's Angel's Casebook" it was Farrah Fawcett that caused the ratings to drop. The first few episodes were very highly rated, but each time Farrah appeared, the show dropped in ratings. In fact, Farrah's last guest appearance on the show was the lowest rated episode of the whole season.

And to answer the question? No. Shelley Hack was not unconvincing as an ex-cop. I actually thought that Shelley Hack was great as Tiffany. I thought she had good chemistry with Cheryl, Jaclyn and David. I love Season 4 and I was definitely convinced that Tiffany was, indeed, an ex-cop. She made a good and believable detective as well.

I thought that Shelley was very convincing as a graduate of the police academy. I thought her whispery voice was fine. Besides, Farrah's voice is kinda whispery as well. And Tiffany never seemed geeky or uncoordinated. She seemed classy, intelligent, smart but could be rough and tumble as well.
