Default Do you think Dwayne settled for Whitley because he couldn't have Denise?

When Denise went to Hillman, Dwayne Wayne didn't blink at Whitley twice. I seriously wonder if he ultimately settled for Whitley because Denise never gave Dwayne a chance and she ended up with the navy man and his daughter Olivia. I as a result, wonder how the show would've turned out if she didn't drop out of Hillman and dated Dwayne?

Seriously, Denise vs. Whitley.

Whitley wins every time!

The weird thing was when they had this crossover episode after Miss Bonet left, Dwayne suddenly behaved as though she was the lost-love-of-his life when, up that point she hadn't been mentioned more than in the vaguest terms. I suppose they thought it wouldn't have been so comedic to have just had him do an 'eh' reaction to her re-appearance when he'd clearly moved on without a backwards glance after she'd left. Actually, I think the crossover episode would have been funnier had he done JUST that and Denise would have been put out that he wasn't pining over her despite her making it clear it was over!

It was weird how Dwayne had to have a reluctant love interest. First Denise, then when she left, Whitley. I feel like the writers were forcing together two characters who had shown no previous interest in one another.

It has been awhile. Did Whitley ever have any real competition with any other women? I know she was engaged to that other guy for awhile but I am drawing a blank on Dwayne and other ladies that might have captured his attention.

At any rate Denise was so low key in that inaugural season she barely noticed anybody around her. She seemed half asleep most of the time. So he shouldn't have taken that rejection too personally.

It's true that he didn't interact much with Whitley at first, but I don't think he settled so much as he and Whitley "found" each other and discovered they could connect more so than they originally thought.

The dynamic between Dwayne & Whitley helped keep my interest in the series and I still watch to this day. Whitley was an intriguing character and of course very desirable. In Bonet's absence, to me she was the most important character as far as why I liked the show.
