It's definitely a hit piece, but they did go to a lot of trouble putting together all of these clips. They seem fixated on what they called the lowered quality of the early 60s Looney Tunes, while I don't have any problem with those toons at all. There was really nothing on the 40s and early 50s cartoons, when Bugs was in his heyday, just as the studio generally was.
I do agree with them about the Bill Lava music scores after Milt Franklyn died, which really weren't well-keyed to the cartoon as Stalling's and Franklyn's were. Budget cuts were partially to blame, and by the time you get to the DePatie-Freleng cartoons of the mid to late 60s, they're just stock, canned music, which basically goes well with dreadful animation. |
