Not necessarily because the show would be considered too offensive by today's standards. My Two Dads at least premise-wise, was pretty edgy (the show basically insinuated that Nicole's mom was a hussy) for what was an otherwise, harmless '80s family sitcom. What I'm trying to get at is that although DNA-based paternity testing was invented in the 1960s, it was not completely accurate until the 1980s. And while people today are familiar with DNA testing, they weren't so much in 1987.
Also, the concept of having "two dads" doesn't seem to be that novel or "odd" anymore considering that there are likely plenty of kids around now who have two dads thanks to gay marriage and surrogates. |

Also how implausible would it be for Judge Wilbur to award shared custody to two unrelated, single men? Even though Michael and Joey were living together in the beginning, you would have to realistically expect that either or both would eventually marry. Being split would inevitably cause further problems in Nicole's life don't you agree?

A show like this could still work now if both dads were identical twin brothers.
