Wouldn't any sensible person back out marrying a guy like that right then and there? And why didn't JJ and Michael lay Keith out for hitting their sister like that? You know for sure that if James was there, he wouldn't have hesitated unlike his sons.

It was a one time slap that Keith soon regretted. And Thelma slapping him back(Even harder) after threatening to kick him out made it clear he was not to ever hit her again. A Good Times Fan also pointed out the slap Keith gave her was more of a,"Leave me alone," type of slap and not a truly abusive type of slap.
