I'm very surprised that Rowdy C didn't bring up the supposed "elephant in the room" which was the absence of Susan Olsen (Jennifer Runyon played Cindy in A Very Brady Christmas instead). He interestingly does briefly bring up how in the subsequent Bradys series, Marica was played by someone other than Maureen McCormick.
Also, I don't understand why he's complaining about the styles that Mike and Carol are sporting at the start of the film. I mean, it had been at that point, almost 20 years since The Brady Bunch premiered and and at least 15 years since the final episode was broadcast. So I would naturally expect Robert Reed and Florence Henderson to have "matured" since then. Plus, it obviously wasn't the '70s anymore. It just seems to me, like just means of complaining just for the sake of it. I actually thought that Florence Henderson aged really well despite the comment that she in AVBC, was now looking like Joan Lawson on Small Wonder. I believe that Florence was about 54 years old when AVBC was produced. And in fairness, Robert Reed was sporting a mustache as far back as The Brady Girls Get Married back in 1981. So him no longer being completely clean shaven onscreen as Mike Brady shouldn't be that earth-shattering. Heck, Barry Williams (Greg) also sported a mustache in not only this but also in The Bradys. Also, I wouldn't immediately jump to the conclusion that, this movie marked the end of so-called "saccharine" family entertainment. While it did premiere a year prior, there was Full House, which was hugely successful during its run. It was so successful, that it easily beat The Bradys in its Friday night, 8 p.m. timeslot. And keep in mind that A Very Brady Christmas was very successful on its own. It was I read, the second highest rated made for TV film of 1988. And there's no question, that CBS wanted more of The Brady Bunch, otherwise we wouldn't have gotten The Bradys over a year later. |

This was just on MeTv 2 weeks ago and I watched the first half. When this aired in 1988 it was the most watched TV movie of the year.
I think its cool but back in 1988 it was so amazing to get everyone back for a show. |

I thought the movie was fine when you get past that Susan Olsen isn't in it. A Very Brady Christmas isn't on like, say, Home Alone, A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation etc. I wonder why it's not? I know I could watch it on Hulu but I'm more of a tv traditionalist and am really not into streaming. I think I streamed Hulu and Netflix once. But the thing is that I don't watch current tv that much and the old shows I don't watch so I really don't need something Hulu.

The show just screams 1980s....the styles, the house, the fashion, the big cordless phones, etc. As much as the Brady Bunch showcased the 1970s, this show showcased the 1980s to the max.
