Real estate investors Hackman Capital Partners and Square Mile Capital Management teamed up to win the competitive auction for the 55-acre 93-year-old CBS Studio Center located in Studio City. The 22 stages of CBS Studio Center have been home to Seinfeld, Roseanne, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Gilligan's Island, Lou Grant, The Larry Sanders Show, Leave It to Beaver, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Hill Street Blues, Parks and Recreation and Gunsmoke. CBS Studio Center is also where CBS shows Big Brother and The Talk tape. In 2019, Hackman Capital Partners purchased CBS' Television City for $750 million. According to the Los Angeles Times, "the staggering price tag underscores the value — and scarcity — of TV soundstages in Los Angeles as content producers scramble for space to shoot TV shows and movies to stock their streaming services." CBS, which acquired the property from Republic Pictures in the 1960s, intends to lease back space from the new owners and continue occupying and producing content on the lot. The CBS Studio Center lot was founded in 1928 by famed silent movie producer Mack Sennett. |

This gets CBS out of the "rental" business - Studio Center also rents space out of other producers - "The Connors" tape there, and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" shot there (and not at Universal City!) so the plain fact, it's easier for ViacomCBS to long-term rent (as they do Television City now - which also leases space for other producers) and just pays for the space they need. Some of the ViacomCBS operations will move to office space on the Paramount Lot.

I know she has her faults, but I recall that Oprah Winfrey DID have both Mary's Apartment and the WJM Newsroom painstakingly recreated so she could hold a reunion of MTM regulars (a few years before Miss Moore's passing). If they can't/won't save the actual sets, perhaps Miss Winfrey could donate the replicas to the Smithsonian! Truly, this would be something worth preserving for future generations!

I am always amazed that huge properties are 95 acres. If I saw 95 acres it would take up a city in my area.
