A 1980s one-season wonder starring Flip Wilson, Gladys Knight, Della Reese, and pre-Urkel Jaleel White.

I remember it. I used to play with a tape recorder a lot when I was a kid. Many years later I went through the old tapes and one of them had an 8 year old me saying that I liked Charlie & Co.

That was intended to be CBS' answer to The Cosby Show but it only lasted for a single season. I remember that on an episode of TV One's Unsung Hollywood about Flip Wilson, Flip's son was interviewed. And he said that his dad often clashed with the writing staff because he felt that what they were writing wasn't an authentic enough of a portrayal of an American black family. Again, I don't know for sure if that's why the show failed, but it does give you some insight that it was going to be an uphill battle in trying to make the show a success.

I loved this show. I always thought it was unfairly cancelled.
