Default The Tammy Grimes Show (1966)

Anyone remember this old show? I have a faint memory of this being my first exposure to Dick Sargent

The thing I remember about Tammy Grimes is that she had a weird sounding voice. Her sitcom was not at all successful and was cancelled after only four weeks on the air, The Dating Game replaced it on the schedule. Tammy Grimes was actually considered for the lead role of Samantha Stephens on Bewitched.

A full episode of The Tammy Grimes Show can be seen here:

On the subject of unsuccessful 1960's sitcoms, Tim Conway's western spoof sitcom titled "Rango" comes to mind. The show had a terrible theme song and the episodes were somewhat similar to F Troop with a lot of silliness going on. There's a funny story about how Rango was supposedly cancelled, one day the cast and crew were on location filming an episode when someone from the studio appeared and drove on to the set, got out of the car and began shouting, "Stop the filming, stop the filming, we're not doing this show anymore!!"

This week it's ABC's notorious "The Tammy Grimes Show" starring Tammy Grimes and Dick Sargent. Why the show was made, why it flopped, and the show the two stars turned down to do this one.

Tammy Grimes' daughter, Amanda Plummer also has a very "unique" speaking voice:

A pretentious faux-British accent.

Never saw it but at first I thought it was a continuation of the alphabet net's 1965 "Tammy" sitcom. I-who was only four when TTGS ran-didn't know until years later that the other show starred Debbie Watson in the title role.

I was surprised to learn today that The Tammy Grimes Show was produced by Greenway Productions, the same company responsible for the old Batman TV series.

Only 4 episodes of the Tammy Grimes Show actually was broadcast, before it was cancelled, although sources claim that work in progress with another 12 scripts was in various stages of completion

Reports are 6 more episodes were complete at the time the show was pulled - most likely still sitting in 20th Century Television's vaults.

ALL 4 aired episodes are going around, with original ABC commercials, if you know where to look *wink*
