I recently read that Gidget, despite only lasting a single season's worth of 32 episodes was actually syndicated throughout the 1980s. This likely in no small part, had a lot to due with the continued stardom of Sally Field, who had won her second Academy Award for Places of the Heart (that was the source of her infamous "You really like me!" acceptance speech) in that time-span.

Actually Screen Gems/Columbia Pictures Television did syndication the show from the mid-1960's onward at various times even before the 1980's.

When the show was syndicated in the 1980's, it was usually for a 12-15-17 week summer run "barter syndication" - stations got it "free" along with about 3-5 minutes of national ads.
