What I mean is that instead of using BMW as a platform to "launch" the next generation and a younger cast, it would've been a mature reboot about Cory and Topanga dealing with adult situations.
This is what the iCarly revival has sought out to do. Supposedly, the original plan would've been for Carly Shay to mentor TikTokers, but Miranda Cosgrove was insistent that the new version should solely focus on her character. This is allegedly also a big reason why the attempted Lizzie Maguire revival fell through because Hilary Duff was pushing for a more "grown-up" tone instead of essentially the same show, juvenile writing and all (a la Raven's Home). |

That sounds like it would be a good concept but, alas, I'm afraid that Michael Jacobs (the creator and main writer) seems to have decided that since GMW got cancelled, he's not going to revisit the earlier show or the BMW characters. Still, I totally agree that they SHOULD have had a show with Cory and Topanga behaving as ADULTS (which still could have been comedic) instead of as folks who'd regressed to mid-teens but in adult bodies. Moreover, they should have had them actually PARENT their elder child and bestie as Alan and Amy had done with Cory, Shawn and Topanga instead of just constantly enabling their offspring's worst traits and pretending said offspring was perfect and didn't need to change for the better or grow (as one YouTuber put it well - 'GMW' PEAKED in eighth-grade). . |
