My uncle used to watch Judge Judy all the time before he passed. Not a very good judge to be honest, but you can’t deny that she can be quite a hoot at times.

There was another time when someone was talking about new shoes coming out and she replied with "What do you mean they came out, they walked out on their own?!"

• The final case of Judge Judy was taped on April 15, 2021. The final episode of Judge Judy will air on July 23, but the last case to be taped already aired on June 8. Judge Judy never released its cases in the order that they were taped.
  
• On that final taping, there were no farewell remarks from Judith, or any other hints of the series's close. One detail will make Judge Judy's last taped case stand-out among its other episodes: A glittery, bee-shaped clip in her hair that wasn't present during that final taping; Judith explained that this was a wink to the fans of JJ, and a nod to her Queen Bee Productions company.
  
• Judith also explained that her enthusiasm for the job never waned during her 25 years on the job, and she was not in low spirits on that final taping day. Rather, she was reflective on her tenure on the show as "a job well done", with excitement about her new continuation series on IMDb TV, Judy Justice.

Judge Judy's longtime bailiff Petri Hawkins Byrd: Judy Sheindlin "didn't ask me" to join Judy Justice

Viewers took notice of Byrd's absence when Sheindlin's new IMDb TV court show's trailer featured a new bailiff. Byrd, who was Judge Judy's bailiff during the show's entire 25-year run, says he was never approached about joining the new show. Byrd tells EW after production wrapped in April, he turned his attention to his wife, Makita Bond-Byrd, a longtime Judge Judy producer who was scheduled for brain surgery. "I didn't have time to think about or ask about Judy Justice," says Byrd, whose wife just completed her third round of chemotherapy. As Byrd notes, the final season was taped remotely with him and the crew in Los Angeles and Sheindlin in New York City because of the pandemic. It wasn't until July that Byrd asked Sheindlin directly about his future. "She informed me I was not being asked to come along on the project," he says, adding: "My assumption is if you were going on to do something else, that you were at least going to ask me if I wanted to have the opportunity to audition for the role."

IMDb TV's Judy Justice is a "tricky sell" on a streaming service because it amounts to a 26th season of Judge Judy, says Daniel D'Addario. "It’s hard to imagine anything with less viral potential than Judy Sheindlin taking someone to task: To have watched television before is to be well-acquainted with the beats of this routine," says D'Addario. Except for one case involving a gig-economy worker, the rest of the show "could realistically have happened at any point in the past quarter-century," says D'Addario. So the question is will a court show format that thrived in daytime syndication work in the streaming world? "Streamers have mastered a great deal, but they haven’t quite cracked the most rigorously formatted shows. Netflix, for example, has struck out with talk shows featuring stars as disparate as Chelsea Handler, Hasan Minhaj, and Michelle Wolf; the great streaming game show has yet to arrive," says D'Addario. "Maybe these formats thrive as part of a routine — one watches Judge Judy in the afternoon, Jeopardy in the evening, and Colbert, Fallon, or Kimmel in bed. Or maybe they’re just slightly less interesting to viewers when left to their own devices. Watched in a vacuum, Judy Justice is competently made, starring practiced talent and crafted by producers who know what they’re doing. Taken as a series available on a platform, and in a streaming landscape, with many more options, it’s hard to imagine picking it. The best thing that can be said for Judy Justice is that it is deeply unsurprising. Another interpretation of that fact might be that, despite the opportunity to take a new setting and use it to spur innovation, Judy Justice is just more of the same."

While we have seen the ratings decline on broadcast, it’s not because audiences are rejecting the content. It’s about convenience and the delivery route.” Barnes adds: "Judy Justice is not without risk. Old Judge Judy episodes (there are more than 5,000) continue to run in syndication on local stations, and viewers don’t seem to mind the recycling. About seven million have been tuning in, a decline of only 11 percent from May, when new episodes were airing, according to Nielsen data. How much Judge Sheindlin does one planet need?"
• Judy Sheindlin says the goal is to bring in at least half of Judge Judy's 8 million viewers to Judy Justice: "The truth is, I think that my story, which I started 26 years ago after spending 40 years in the family court, is still relevant," she adds. Judy Justice features a new, bright set. “I changed up the robe,” says Sheindlin. “I went to the color board and said, ‘What looks good on me? What will reflect the light on my face? And I also think the new collar (on the robe) is a little more modern.” Sheindlin adds: “It’s a new show (and) you can only do so much. If you go into a theater you’re going to see comedy, drama, a ballet … you know what you’re expecting, and when you go to a court show … you pretty much know what to expect. Truthfully, it’s (the show’s) execution and its leader and who’s presenting the case. It’s really no different for me from what I’ve been doing but people will be able to pick up their phones and iPads and stream it on the go. I honestly don’t know what the future of daytime broadcasting is during the afternoon. Court will definitely be back in session for Judge Judy Sheindlin. The IMDb TV series "Judy Justice" has been picked up for a second season.

“I am over the moon and couldn’t be happier with the Judy Justice reception in streaming,” Judge Sheindlin said Tuesday. “Amazon has been a terrific partner and I look forward to our continued collaboration.”

Season 2 is expected to premiere in the fall.

After launching the first original court show on streaming with "Judy Justice" on Amazon Freevee, Judy Sheindlin could make history again with the first streaming show to sell in broadcast syndication.

Former CBS executive Scott Koondel’s Sox Entertainment, which distributes "Judy Justice", is actively exploring selling the show’s library — about 260 episodes — to TV stations for fall 2023 or fall 2024, sources tell Deadline.



“It’s extremely fluid tight now,” a station executive said. “There will be an opportunity for shows like Judy Justice to potentially get on the air while incumbents try to hold onto time periods at fever pitch.”

Cable syndication also is a possibility, I hear.

"Judy Justice" Scores Two-Season Renewal; Franchise Expanding at Freevee with Docuseries "Justice on Trial"

Amazon’s Freevee has renewed "Judy Justice" for two additional seasons and will expand the franchise with the docudrama, "Justice on Trial".

"Justice on Trial" is the third series created and executive produced by Judge Judy Sheindlin for the streamer and will be part of the new "Justice" brand, which also includes "Tribunal Justice", premiering June 9.




According to Freevee, "Judy Justice" has grown to be the service’s No. 1 Original program in hours watched, with customers viewing more than 150 million hours to date.

In its debut season, the program won the Daytime Emmy for Best Legal/Courtroom Program. New Season 2 episodes debut every weekday through June 9.




"Justice on Trial" will explore the American justice system including what children are taught in school, police diligence as opposed to overreach and individual rights versus the greater good featuring testimony and reenactments based on actual court transcripts.

The docudrama examines seminal rulings through a combination of sometimes-heated courtroom debate, lively civil discourse, and common-sense legal analysis.
